All hands on deck – the importance of staying connected

IGA held its first all hands meeting where the entire team got together over Meet to connect, share and discuss. The main topic of discussion were the core values that the team believed in and how they line up with the core values of the company, what the most important value would be and the expectations each team member had for this exciting new journey. Two words that were mentioned continuously were communication and connection.

The importance of staying connected cannot be overstated in this Covid era of remote work, home isolation and social distancing. According to researchers, feeling connected to one another reduces stress and greatly improves productivity. It also releases oxytocin, also known as the bonding hormone. So why is all of this relevant to anything? All of this makes a person feel secure, supported and like they belong. Connection and open communication with work teams, managers, bosses, inspires productivity and creativity, positively influences the feeling of belonging and successful collaboration.

But the most important reason for staying connected is due to the fact that connection is the most crucial component of building a productive and efficient workplace. Connected teams nurture healthy working relationships that are based on respect, collaboration and knowledge-sharing. They create efficient workplaces.

The IGA core value system, or any core value system for that matter, consists of just words on paper. But it is when we put those words to action that magic happens. Staying connected, respect for one another and creating an efficient working environment is how through the first of many all hands meetings we are taking strong strides towards growth. So, cheers to growth!
